Cricket Bat:

  • Traditionaly made from English willow
  • Height avge: 38inch refered to as a Short Handle
  • Width; Can not be thicker than 4.25 inch
  • Bottom called the ’Toe’
  • Sides called the ’Edge’ (also the name of James Ramsdens favorite shot)
  • Front called the ’Face’
  • Back called the ’Ridge’


Cricket Ball:

  • Red leather ball, coated in varnish...Very hard
  • Core is a ball of cork wrapped tightly with string
  • Leather is bound together with string, which forms the ’Seam’


The Stumps:

  • Also reffered to as, the wickets, timber, poles, wood, castle
  • Height 28 inch
  • Width 1.5 inch
  • Made of wood
  • Off stump is the same side as the batsmans bat
  • Middle stump
  • Leg stump same side as batsmans legs


Bails:

  • 2 small wooden dowl wich sit ontop of the stumps
  • The wicket is ’Broken’ when the bails are removed


Batting Pads:

  • Traditionaly made from leather (modern pads synthetic)
  • Groves on the front are wood or plastic inserts
  • Height 30 to 35 in
  • Width 15 to 20in
  • 3 velcro straps to bind the pad to your leg

Batting Gloves:

  • Traditionaly made from leather (modern pads synthetic)
  • Padding on fingers made of foam
  • Velcro strap to bind to wrist
  • No padding on left thumb (right thumb for left handers)


Wicket Keeping gloves

  • Traditionaly made from leather (modern pads synthetic)
  • Palm grip made from rubber to assist in catching the ball
  • Webbing from thumb to forefinger
  • Usualy worn with cotten inner gloves
  • Plastic caps on finger tips to protect fingers

Wicket Keeping Pads:

  • Shorter than Batting pads (more like footbalers shinpads)
  • Height 25in
  • 2 velcro straps to bind to led
  • Very lightweight to assist in keepers movements


The Box:

  • Covers the groin area


Helmet:

  • Very hard plastic, used by batsmen (and somtimes wicketkeepers)
  • Adjustable metal grill to protect the and allow vision
  • Chin strap to stop the helmet moving


Thigh Guard:

  • Very lightweight foam pad which covers batsmans thigh
  • 2 velcro straps to bind to


Scorebook-Scorecard:

  • Paper book where the Scorer loggs every deliver, dismisal and run

 

Umpires Counter:

  • Plastic device used to keep by the umpire to keep track of balls in the over, overs bowled by a team and which bowl is currently bowling
