Forward Defensive:

Objective:
Protect the ball from hitting the stumps, of the front foot.
Key points:
- Played to a “good length ball”
- Head, Foot & knee all in line.
- Ball played under eye line.
- Foot to pitch of the ball, but not overstretching.
- High front elbow
- Back foot in the crease.Bat angled down to prevent ball from going on the air.
Back foot defensive:

Objective:
Stop a short pitch ball from passing the batsman of the back foot.
Key points:
- Played to “short of a length” straight ball.
- Back foot goes back and across to get in side the line of the ball
- Ball played under eye line.
- Hands high so on top of the ball.
- Bat angled down to prevent ball from going in the air.
Straight Drive:

Objective:
Hit the ball along the ground back past the bowler’s feet.
Key points:
- Played to full, straight ball.
- Bat comes down straight (showing the bowler the full face of the bat)
- Front foot comes forward to meet the pitch (where the ball bounces)
- High front elbow.
- Back foot on the ground.
- Head, knee, foot all in line.
- Hands through the line of the ball, back towards the bowler.
Cover Drive:

Objective:
Hit the ball along the ground through the cover region.
Key points:
Played to a full pitched, wide ball.
Ball played away from the body (wide on the off side)
Front foot forward and across outside the line of off stump
High front elbow
Head down, front knee bent slightly
Hand go towards out from the body towards the cover region.
Cut Shot:

Objective:
To hit the ball along the ground through the point region
Key points:
- Played to short, wide ball.
- Back foot goes back and across.
- On toes to get on top of the ball.
- Hands come from above hitting down on the ball.
- Hands extend out towards point region
The Hook & Pull shot

Objectives:
Hit the ball through the on side (the mid-wicket/square leg region)
Key Points:
- Played to a very short pitched ball.
- Weight distributed backwards.
- Hands high, played between the chin and hips
- Very important not to take eye off the ball.
- Hit down on top of the ball to keep the ball on the floor.
- Hit upwards from underneath to hit ball in the air
Leg Glance

Objectives:
Play the ball through the on side.
Key Points:
- Played to a full pitch ball on usually missing leg stump.
- Feet/body move inside the line of the ball.
- Hands come across the body hitting down on the ball.
- Roll the wrist to control/direct the ball towards the leg side.
Sweep Shot

Objective:
Play the ball behind square leg.
Key points:
- Played from kneeling position.
- Front foot comes inside the line of the ball.
- Hands come down from high, hitting on top of the ball.
- Head over front knee.
- Hit with horizontal bat.
- Eye on the ball all the way
