30 ECA members met at the In Studio Vinum restaurant in Tallinn for the end of Season dinner and to celebrate the players and performance of the ECA during the summer.
2009 was the first year the ECA had participated as an ICC associate member and with ICC support; we have managed to upgrade our ground making it one of the best in Scandinavia. The playing surface was improved by flattening it with a road roller and with the purchase of “Betty” a professional mowing machine, we were finally able to watch the ball glide to the boundary evenly on any part of the field.
Our upgrade also included two new practice nets, which enabled us, together with the work of Tim Filer, as the national coach and Tim Heath as the national captain, to send an inexperienced team that held their own at the European championships in Corfu. In addition we begin the development of women’s cricket in Estonia with the creation of their own league, and held our first inter schools tournament.
Apart from an active and entertaining indoor cricket season, the ECA board is looking to complete a second ground in 2010. This will allow for more flexibility in scheduling men and women’s domestic league games and for the better introduction of a youth league, as well as the opportunity to more easily host international tournaments.
Well done to all!
